5 Minutes with... Helen Spencer, Managing Partner at WR Partners
What led you into your industry?
I joined the accountancy industry 20 years ago as a HR Manager having recognised the need to reduce my working hours with a small family. Having spent a number of years in FMCG manufacturing I was attracted to working within the professional services area, where the development and engagement of people are the key driver of business success. I never could of imagined that 15 years after starting with the business I would become Managing Partner.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
You should never look down on anyone, unless you are helping them up.
What’s the biggest lesson you have learnt in business?
That your business will change and evolve, and an open mindset is essential to ensure that you don’t get “stuck” in doing what you have always done. If you are not being brave in challenging yourself and your business, you are going to fail, this is the biggest opportunity for learning. But, most importantly, surround yourself with great people.
Has there been a truly pivotal moment for your business?
With a business that has over 100 years of experience, there have been a number of pivotal moments. Our recent rebrand from Whittingham Riddell to WR Partners, gave us an opportunity to “reset” our business to ensure we are protecting the future of our clients, by providing quality advice to help them realise their goals. We are a relationship based business, and I believe our new brand reflects the way we work, together in partnership with our team and our clients.
What are your plans for 2024 and beyond?
We are relocating our Nantwich office into a modern office where we can offer a more exclusive experience for our clients and our team, ensuring that we focus on providing great client service. We are committed to building our growth and reputation across Cheshire with an ongoing investment programme.
