Mother's Day - Night Away & Spa by Day

With Mother’s Day fast approaching, The Cheshire Magazine team took their  Mum’s for an early surprise celebration

Built in 1816 for the wealthy William Hilton Cooke, Rookery Hall Hotel & Spa in Nantwich, Cheshire  was the chosen venue for Craig Hough and his Mum, Beverley

Craig says

“Every son loves to treat their Mum, so I wanted to plan to go somewhere with a reputation for incredible dining, with a luxury spa, and somewhere just far enough that it warranted an overnight stay. Rookery Hall was the definitive option. As we arrived at the grounds my Mum’s face lit up at the unique Grade II listed Georgian style country mansion. After a warm greeting from the staff and a short show-around, my Mum went for her treatment as I kicked back with coffee in the Spa lounge. Once she was done, we sat and grabbed a delicious light lunch before settling in pool side.

After a quick check in, we freshened up and headed down to dinner. Our host was incredibly welcoming and showed us into the Terrace Restaurant where you can see how the owners have restored the room to its original grandeur.  The 2 AA Rosettes awarded restaurant uses local ingredients and their dishes were as tasteful as the surroundings. The menu offered classic British cuisine enhanced with a contemporary twist.

I opted for a melt-in-the-mouth English lamb rump with potato terrine, salt baked celeriac, wild mushroom covered in a roast lamb jus. I ordered a couple of sides to complete the meal. For desert I opted for the hot chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.

After dinner we retired to the Drawing Room and were surrounded by original family owners of the property, whose portrait adorns the wall. it was a cosy place to unwind and talk in front of the open fire.

After a great night’s sleep, Mum and I set off home, having spent some lovely quality time together. “

Craig’s Mum said

“When Craig called to say we were going to Rookery Hall I was excited as it was much needed. I hadn’t been to a spa for a while so was more than ready to unwind.

The staff were incredibly welcoming and showed us round and talked me through my treatment. I opted for the shoulder neck and back massage. I entered the dimly lit room, with soft music playing in the background, and immediately felt at ease. It was a deeply therapeutic massage focusing on the aches and pains in my back, and eliminated tension knots in the shoulders. It was wonderful, and the member of staff was incredibly informative and offered advice on what she was doing, and the products she was using.

After my treatment we settled down for lunch where I had ham terrine for a starters and noodles as a main, finished off with a crispy glass of Champagne. I was in my element.

After a few hours in the Spa we headed for dinner. I opted for the delicious stone bass fillet, Colcannon potato, braised baby gem, spinach, tomato, fish cream.

Post dinner I enjoyed a chilled drink by the fire, which was the perfect end to a perfect evening. Having had the massage earlier in the day, I sunk into bed and had one of the best night’s sleep I’ve had all year.

I had a lovely, relaxing experience, and I am already looking to book my next trip.”
