The Full Monty
Katie Barrell visited The Opera House in Manchester to see The Full Monty, a brand-new production from Simon Beaufoy
Based on the hit Brit-flick, The Full Monty follows a group of unemployed men who decide to try their hand at something very different to pay the bills. Adapted from his screenplay, Simon Beaufoy's play celebrates the 25th anniversary of the film premiere.
This was a fun night of comedy and nostalgia. The soundtrack of 90's hits is cleverly woven in between scenes, which only enhances the performance. The cast has a host of familiar faces (including Danny Hatchard as Gaz and Jake Quickenden as Guy), and also showcases some new talent, with the central role of Nathan played by Rowan Poulton who is only 10 years old. He had the audience captivated with his comedy timing.
The audience was laughing from the off and the closing scene in the first half has to be seen to be believed.
Although the show deals with the serious social issues of the day the cultural context is reflected in the bonds the guys build together.
The cast were obviously enjoying every single moment, and their joy only made it all the more fun to watch and you truly felt part of their journey.
