The Refuge Goes Al Fresco

Manchester’s favourite hangout, has Reopened in style with a brand new outdoor area

Manchester’s favourite hangout, The Refuge by Volta—the landmark restaurant and bar at Kimpton® Clocktower Hotel— reopened on Monday 12th April, in line with the Government’s roadmap announcement. The return of The Refuge sees the space unveil its beautiful outdoor area in the courtyard at Waterhouse Way – tucked away on an industrial hidden street.

The team at Kimpton® Clocktower Hotel and The Refuge have been working hard behind the scenes throughout lockdown as they redeveloped the al fresco dining area. This is Manchester’s best-kept secret and the outdoor area offers food, drinks and happy times for hotel guests and locals alike.

The heated and covered outdoor area is one of the few restaurants open in Manchester. It is filled with plants and sound tracked by the city’s finest DJs and selectors. It’s the perfect spot for guests to catch up and enjoy al fresco dining in the city post lockdown, while the indoor dining remains shut.

Guests at the Kimpton® Clocktower Hotel, which will also reopened on 12th April for essential business travel, will benefit from the brand-new refurbishment in the courtyard as well. Kimpton® Clocktower Hotel is one of the few luxury hotels in the city that offers outdoor dining.

To mark the reopening of the outdoor space, The Refuge has curated a selection of new dishes, which feature meat and fish sharing platters. Some of their favourite dishes will remain on the menu, including the Smoked feta, beetroot, hazelnuts, dill, and Lamb Shawarma, alongside the Voltini classics, inspired from the Volta travels. And Manchester’s ultimate Sunday Roast will also be available to order for the perfect weekend feast. In addition to this, The Refuge will be launching a new dessert and drinks menu featuring a special ‘Refuge Lager’.

The outdoor dining is available to book until 16th May. Bookings can be made online now: www.refugemcr.co.uk

The Refuge outdoor area will open on:

  • Monday to Thursday from 12pm to 9pm

  • Friday to Saturday from 12pm to 10pm

  • Sunday from 12pm to 8pm

Online bookings in advance are highly recommended to avoid disappointment. Each table will have a two-hour slot and food must be purchased along with drinks. Seats will be limited for the foreseeable future to allow for physical distancing. Limited walk-ins available only during late evenings in the weekend.

Along with other safety measures, guests can choose to access the menu via a QR code or a disposable single-use menu. The safety of anyone visiting The Refuge and Kimpton® Clocktower Hotel during these times is of course of the utmost importance. Please see further details on IHG Clean Promise here.
