Shrewsbury School

Pupils at Shrewsbury school are celebrating an outstanding performance in the A-Level examination results, with results released in August. Fifty-six per cent of all papers were graded at A* or A and more than 80 per cent of all grades were at A* to B level, meaning that pupils are now poised to take up places at leading higher education institutions. Eleven pupils managed a clean sweep of A* grades and a total of 60 managed an A* or an A in every subject.

Headmaster Mark Turner commented: β€œWe are delighted that our pupils have been rewarded for their effort and industry and that they are now equipped not only with the grades that they need to access and thrive in the next step on their academic journey, but also with the enthusiasm for learning and open-mindedness that will prepare them for successful and fulfilled futures.”

The girls have achieved highly across all of the 22 subjects offered, with – for instance – one hundred per cent of all grades achieved in Chemistry being either A* or A. All of the girls got into their university of choice with many deciding on a science focus to their degrees, such as dentistry, neuroscience and medical biochemistry.

Helen Jeys, Headmistress at the School, is thrilled at the results and commented: β€œAs we are approaching our twenty year anniversary, I am thrilled that these are the best results so far for Alderley Edge School for Girls.”

Withington Girls’ School

Withington Girls’ School is celebrating a set of exceptional A-level results by its Class of 2018, recording an all-time high of 41 per cent of subject grades passed at A*. Further cause for celebration at Withington are the places secured to study degree courses in a wide range of subjects at the country’s top universities, including 14 Oxbridge places (18 per cent of the cohort), the highest in recent years.

β€œWithington students never cease to astonish me,” says Headmistress Mrs Sarah Haslam. β€œIn a year of continuing A Level reform, we are delighted to see our students maintaining the Withington tradition of academic excellence and securing outstanding results that enable them to now move on to the next exciting stage and pursue their dreams and ambitions.”
