The Rocky Horror Show at Storyhouse, Chester
Bill Woods visited Storyhouse in Chester to see The Rocky Horror Show celebrate 50 years of fun
Celebrating 50 years of the smash hit musical, Richard OโBrienโs The Rocky Horror Show has been getting audiences on their feet since it first opened in London in 1973, and continues to entertain sell-out crowds and deliver a guaranteed party. And the event at the wonderful Storyhouse in Chester was no exception, with the fun and frivolity starting from the moment you walk into a sea of glittery hats and fishnet tights, and that was just the audience!
The Rocky Horror Show tells the story of Brad and his fiancรฉe Janet, two squeaky clean college kids who meet Dr FrankโnโFurter by chance when their car breaks down outside his house whilst on their way to visit their favourite college professor. Itโs an adventure theyโll never forget, with fun, frolics, frocks and frivolity, bursting with timeless songs and outrageous outfits.
The cast were all stellar and perfectly portrayed the iconic characters of this musical extravaganza. Bringing the countless classic songs that have made the show such a hit to life including โSweet Transvestiteโ, โScience Fiction/Double Featureโ, โDammit Janetโ and, of course, the timeless floor-filler, โThe Time-Warpโ. The cast also provided spot-on timed humour that made the audience laugh out loud at many a line, and had them lost in this fabulously frivolous world for the night. We also enjoyed the clever incorporation of references to nearby towns and some topical humour from Phillip Frank as the Narrator, which makes each show that little bit unique, adding even more laughter to this rip-roaring show.
The worldโs favourite RockโnRoll musical famously combines science-fiction, horror, comedy and music while encouraging audience participation. Part of the atmosphere of the show is why it is loved by fans who go all out in dressing up as their favourite character and thoroughly enjoy getting involved in shouting out and singing loud throughout the show.
The Rocky Horror Show is playing at Storyhouse in Chester until Saturday 4th March, and if you get chance I would highly recommend grabbing your party hats and dancing heels and joining in the party.
