Where did the concept for the Flytinary app come from?
I came up with the idea of Flytinary when I was backpacking across Central and South America; I was staying in the Black Sheep Hostel in Medellin, Colombia. Other travellers and I became very frustrated that there was no all-in-one travel platform that gave us a holistic view of the best international travel deals, places, with country information to book our next journey efficiently. Often, we found ourselves trawling through dozens of websites, reading hundreds of reviews and trying to find the best offer, which became extremely frustrating and time-consuming. So, my travel friends challenged me to make a better system for searching and booking travel, and the rest is history.
What are the stand-out features of the app?
That’s a difficult question, as I’m pretty biased, so I think it’s all useful. Our users seem to enjoy the international travel swipe section of the app, labelling it the lovechild of Tinder for travel. Others love the data elements of the app; our sophisticated algorithms find the cheapest flights and feature a choice of curated accommodation through tie-ups with large suppliers like Booking.com, Hostelworld and Airbnb, as well as memorable experiences in association with Tripadvisor and an innovative, in-destination, co- working space finder. So, there are many cool features, even simple answers, like which plug adapter to take on holiday, another favourite of our Fly Members.
What is the benefit of using the app over researching your trips yourself or booking through a traditional travel agent?
Doing it yourself, well, from experience, travel booking sites make you troll through thousands of bookings engines and options to try and suit your needs. This process can take hours and sometimes days, especially when you are booking your annual trip, you want to get it right. I think the statistic is that it takes 35 hours on average to book a holiday, crazy, right!
