The Sunday Roast Review : The Roebuck Inn

The quintessentially British Sunday Roast is one of our most popular dishes, so we sent the team out to sample some of the best in the region

4 for Sunday lunch in the heart of Mobberley, Cheshire

The Roebuck is an award-winning inn situated in the leafy village of Mobberley. It is a Grade II listed building dating back to 1708 and is the oldest inn in the village. In 2016 the Roebuck re-opened its doors after a lengthy closure. Mary Mclaughlin and Tim Bird acquired it and restored it over 18 months basing their restoration on a โ€˜petit hotel and bistroโ€™ feel within a traditional old English inn.

We were warmly greeted by Chris, the General Manager and his uber friendly team. We decided upon a sharing platter to start, and we were not disappointed, the Roebuck Bistro Board was a revelation, scrumptious from chickpea fritters and Gruyere croquettes to pork meatballs and tempura cauliflower served with homemade pickles, Bosciola olives, freshly baked bread and infused oils, whatโ€™s not to love!

Our Sunday lunch mains continued with this level of satisfaction, hearty helpings of meat and vegetables perfectly cooked and a Yorkshire pudding worthy of the name (and there were three Yorkshiremen at the table that day!). A standout point was that each meat was served with its own dedicated meat gravy, a fabulously tasty touch.

With a wide selection of food and drink, this is a hidden gem tucked away from the hustle and bustle, one not to be missed!
